Mazatlán Mayor Carlos Felton González asked for citizens’ patience yesterday, explaining that the municipality’s water department (Jumapam) will be tearing up streets this year in a concerted effort to change deteriorated drainage and water pipes.
Speaking to reporters, he announced that this past weekend Jumapam began replacing pipes in six different locations in the municipality and citizens will encounter closed or partially closed streets throughout the year. This, he said, is the cost of improvement and development (of the infrastructure).
The Mayor advised the municipality has received 100 million pesos from the federal government to apply to drainage and water infrastructure this year in addition to funds to build the Miravalles aqueduct to bring water from the Picachos Dam to Mazatlán.
He went on to deny that constant drainage problems have effected hotel investment as stated by AMPI president Jesús Daniel López Tirado yesterday.
The Mayor stated as proof is there are verbal agreements to build ten new hotels and 2014 ended with historic investment numbers in the municipality.
As well as repairs to drains and pipes, the municipality has sent the federal government a list of 20 more public works it proposes to initiate this year, said the Mayor.
