Mexico, China plan railroad link to NM border

abqjournal.com
bbestmexA Chinese development company has inked plans to build a railroad linking Mexico’s Pacific coast with an industrial hub just south of New Mexico’s Santa Teresa port of entry, according to the newspaper El Diario de Chihuahua.
The newspaper reports that Chihuahua Gov. César Duarte signed an agreement on Wednesday with developer China Hyway Group Ltd., the China Development Bank and other investors to construct the rail line between Nayarit state on Mexico’s west coast and San Jerónimo, an industrial development at the western edge of Ciudad Juárez.
San Jerónimo is home to the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn and is expected to become the sprawling border city’s next area of expansion.
Just north of San Jerónimo lies New Mexico’s fast-growing industrial enclave of Santa Teresa, where Union Pacific recently opened a major rail yard and terminal.
Duarte, who announced the deal alongside Nayarit Gov. Roberto Sandoval in Beijing, said the project will spur development at the San Jerónimo-Santa Teresa port of entry.
Work is expected to begin by year end, according to the report.

Nayarit Recognizes Gay Marriages

The Civil Registry of Tepic, Nayarit has informed the Council of the Federal Judiciary that it has adopted the federal ruling to formalize same-sex marriages.
The Second District Court in Matters of Civil Protection, Federal Administrative, Litigation, and Labor ruled that Article 135 of the Civil Code of Nayarit, which recognizes only marriages between a man and woman, to be unconstitutional and the federal judge ordered the state Civil Registry to process the application for marriage of a same-sex couple once all other legal requirements were fulfilled.
The Federal Judiciary Council (CJF) said that Article 135 of the Civil Code of Nayarit violates the principles of equality and non-discrimination encompassed in the first and fourth articles of the Constitution, creating a distinction that excludes the right of same-sex couples to get married.
The CJF concluded that to deprive same-sex couples of enjoying the benefits of the legal institution of marriage is unreasonable and discriminatory.
The CJF said that while there is no constitutional right to same-sex marriages, there is in the constitution a principle ensuring the right to free development of one’s personality, which includes deciding whether or not to marry and who to marry.

UN to Hold Nuclear Conference in the Riviera Nayarit

November 4, 2013
United Nations' personnel came to Riviera Nayarit last month and approved the destination as the site for the 'Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons,' set to take place in February 2014.

Riviera Nayarit, Mexico - Personnel from the United Nations came to the Riviera Nayarit last month to perform a site inspection to assess the area as a prospective location for the Conference on the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons, set to take place February 13-16, 2014.

The Riviera Nayarit was duly approved to host this important international event.

On October 21st, a group from Mexico’s Secretariat of Foreign Relations including: Juan Sandoval Mendiolea, Director General for the UN; Karin Oechler, advisor to the Executive Management for Political Coordination; and Carlos González Cedano, the Adjunct Events General Manager, proceeded with the inspections needed to make the final decision.

"There’s no doubt the Riviera Nayarit’s top-notch hotel infrastructure plus the quality and excellence in service makes it a destination worthy of this kind of international event," said Marc Murphy, Managing Director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau. "It’s an honor to be considered by the UN to host a conference of this magnitude."

The CAB events staff assisted the UN personnel from the moment they arrived until the moment they left. They took the group on tours of different hotels in Nuevo Vallarta, which would accommodate the 700 attendees. They also visited the Paradise Village Hotel, the site of the convention center that will host the event.

Several meetings took place with hotel executives to finalize details and reservations contracts will be signed during this first week of November.

It is thanks to the investment and initiative of the People’s Government — headed by Roberto Sandoval Castañeda — that an event of this scale and with such a worldwide impact can take place in the Riviera Nayarit. This also serves to powerfully position the destination’s brand.
