Dredging of Mazatlán’s harbor moves forward

Alfonso Gil Díaz, Director General of the Port Authority, said that yesterday he received a telephone call from the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT) telling him that the SCT had established a budget of 300 million pesos ($23.4 million) to dredge the harbor.

Gil Díaz pointed out that soil studies had already been completed so companies bidding on the project will know in advance what needs to be removed and the type of soil involved.

He said that since the funds would now be available, he would immediately launch a request for proposals for the dredging project. He said the process could take a couple of months.

He also noted that the winning company would have to bring its dredging equipment to Mazatlán and length of time to accomplish that is unknowable at the present time.

Gil Díaz said the entire harbor project could amount to 1.3 billion pesos ($100 million)
