The president of the Offshore Shrimp Product System, Manuel Veliz, said an agreement was entered into by the producers of offshore Mexican shrimp to promote and market their products in the United States in order to increase sales and have a greater presence in that market.

The agreement will serve to increase by 30% direct sales of their products through their own marketing efforts in the U.S. market. Veliz added that it plans to increase the presence of offshore Mexican shrimp in at least 10 states of the United States. He added that currently the Mexican shrimp industry has a presence in six U.S. states: California, Arizona, Texas, Illinois, Hawaii and Washington.

In 2011 Mexico exported 32,569 tons of shrimp, prawns and other crustaceans, with a value exceeding $ 315 million. Most of the exports were sold in the United States and some Asian markets.
