MONTERREY – U.S. Ambassador Anthony Wayne travelled to Monterrey to participate in the Mexico-U.S. Entrepreneurship and Innovation Council’s (MU- SEIC) third meeting along-side Undersecretary for North America, Sergio Alcocer Martinez de Castro, and Enrique Jacob Rocha, President of Mexico’s National Entrepreneurship Institute (INADEM).
The leaders met with MUSEIC council members and subcommittee co-chairs to promote ongoing efforts to advance entrepreneurship and innovation between Mexico and the Unit- ed States.
Established in May 2013, MUSEIC is one of the key initiatives strengthening the linkages between the U.S. and Mexico entrepreneurial ecosystems. MUSEIC is a component of the High-Level Economic Dialogue (HLED) serving as a bilateral platform to increase U.S.-Mexico economic competitiveness. Projects implemented under MUSEIC include the launching of the Innovation Corps project linking academic researchers with entrepreneurs to bridge the gap between the lab and marketplace; strengthening the connection between the United States and Mexico as part of the Small Business Network of the Americas; organizing an intelligent manufacturing conference in November 2014; and completing two Americas Competitiveness Exchanges (ACE) to the United States and Mexico where entrepreneurs toured incubators, entrepreneurship/technology commercialization centers, and shared network and exchange experiences.
During the meeting Ambassador Wayne said, “Two weeks ago I traveled to Washington, D.C. to participate in the HLED. … the topic of supporting entrepreneurship in our two countries was raised more than once.
It is clear to me that MUSEIC continues to be the vehicle to deliver precisely what our presidents seek: greater collaboration on entrepreneurship and innovation between government, academia, financiers, incubators, entrepreneurs, and innovators to enhance North American competitiveness.”
SRE’s Undersecretary Alcocer said MUSEIC is an essential part of enhancing the competitiveness in the world of Mexico and the United States. He high-lighted the support for women’s entrepreneurship and for collaboration among innovation clusters in both countries.
It is clear to me that MUSEIC continues to be the vehicle to deliver precisely what our presidents seek: greater collaboration on entrepreneurship and innovation between government, academia, financiers, incubators, entrepreneurs, and innovators to enhance North American competitiveness.”
SRE’s Undersecretary Alcocer said MUSEIC is an essential part of enhancing the competitiveness in the world of Mexico and the United States. He high-lighted the support for women’s entrepreneurship and for collaboration among innovation clusters in both countries.
He also emphasized the roles which Mexican consulates in the United States can play in supporting MUSEIC as well as expressing thanks for the support of USAID and from the private sector for this initiative.
INADEM President Rocha added, “Thanks to the agreements made over the past year, we’ll be able to promote the mechanisms to support Mexican entrepreneurs who work in both sides of the border, we’ll also encourage those who want to invest and start a business in the United States of America.

Pilot projects that MUSEIC will be starting in 2015 include iCluster 2.0 allowing Mexico and the United States to share a joint cluster map that will link industry, academia and entrepreneurs to drive regional economic development; strengthening the binational network for small and medium businesses to encourage sharing of best practices, training, and links to build economic opportunities; exploring targeted SME loans for entrepreneurs.
