The great stakeholders of the United Kingdom’s energy sector are interested in investing in the Mexican market, said the executive director of the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (Amexcid), part of the Foreign Relations Secretariat, Juan Manuel Valle Pereña.
Although it is still difficult to estimate investment, the federal government expects “billions” of dollars from foreign investment in Mexico in this sector, Valle Pereña said in an interview with a Mexican news agency.

The Mexico-United Kingdom Dual Year has a section dedicated to commerce and investment between the two nations, with various events planned in cities such as London, Manchester and Liverpool, Valle Pereña said. These events will range from massive tourism and aerospace industry fairs to more specialized ones, he said.

There will be special emphasis on the tourism industry, since the U.K. has the third highest tourism to Mexico after the United States and Canada; with Puerto Vallarta, Cancun and Mexico City as the most popular destinations, Valle Pereña said.

Mexican creative industries will also be given relevance, especially in London, with its important film, audiovisual, design and textile activities, which will be linked with the cultural program of the Dual Encounter, Valle Pereña said.

Activities for the aerospace, automotive, medical and advanced manufacturing industries, among other relevant activities, are also planned, the director said. The U.K. is Mexico’s sixth commercial and investment partner within the European Union, Valle Pereña said.

Valle Pereña said Mexico’s presence through various events will be promoted throughout the country to bring about a greater commercial and investment relationship. There will be talks about Mexico in universities through-out the U.K. “because we want people at all levels to be talking about Mexico,” he said.

Better opportunities for Mexican investors in the U.K. will open in the Dual Year, because the main objective is to increase the potential of the two country’s economic relationship, Valle Pereña said. “We want to open new opportunities for our companies, and for U.K. entrepreneurs to also discover a great investment partner in Mexico,” he said.

Valle Pereña said the aim is to finish the Dual Year with “a greater number of UK people knowing what Mexico is and what Mexican industry offers, so this will generate greater commercial flow, investment and tourism; and for Mexicans to learn what the U.K. has to offer,” he said.
