Many of the 7,000 Mazatlecans in attendance took advantage of free bus transportation from outlying colonias offered by the municipality.
Before a packed house yesterday at the newly constructed Centro de Usos Múltiples, Mazatlán Mayor Carlos Felton reviewed his administration’s first year in office to invited functionaries and approximately 7,000 Mazatlecans, many of whom took advantage of free bus transportation from outlying colonias offered by the municipality.
According to media reports, the Mayor concentrated on discussing 76 projects the municipality has planned, including the Centro de Seguridad Ciudadana, Parque Central being promoted by hotelier and businessman Ernesto Coppel Kelly and a new baseball stadium, a project sponsored by Sinaloa Governor Mario López Valdez. What has not yet been secured, he said, is the 1,350 million pesos required to fund the projects.
In 36 minutes, Felton outlined 18,000 suggestions he had received from Mazatlecans and enumerated the number and names of municipal streets that have been paved and pointed out the 77 new vehicles purchased for the municipality during his first term.
In recognition of foreign residents in the audience, Felton spoke in English for a few minutes outlining improved tourism and security in the city.
As the speech approached its conclusion, the Mayor referred to new sports complexes being built and financial incentives his administration has initiated to attract investors. But by that time, media reported, half the attendees had already left the Multiple Use Center to ensure they had a seat on buses returning to their colonias.
