Carnaval Mazatlan 2013: Linterna Mágica (Magic Lantern)




The Instituto de Cultura, Tourismo y Arte de Mazatlán announced the theme for Carnaval 2013 to be held February 7-12.
In homage to the impact cinema has had on the world, the theme for all seven Carnaval events will be the “Magic Lantern” (Linterna Mágica).
At the historic Casa Melcher yesterday, the candidates for Queen of Carnaval, Floral Queen, King of Happiness and Child Queen were announced and presented to media. A total of 10 Mazatlán beauties will vie for the titles of Queen while five men, the majority of them musicians, have thrown their hats in the ring to run for King of Happiness. Three young girls, Evelyn, Sashenka and Fátima, will contest the Child Queen category.
Also announced yesterday were the groups and singers that will appear at the crowning ceremonies of Carnaval.
The popular group Pandora will be on stage at the crowning of Queen of Carnaval in a show commemorating major moments in the history of Hollywood.
The Queen of Floral Games will be accompanied by the singers of Canto Sinaloa, winners of Cervantino 2012, under the baton of Maestro Enrique Patrón de Rueda.
And finally, the singing duo of Jesse & Joy will rock the stage at the crowning of the Child Queen.
Carnaval 2013 will be the 115th year Mazatlán has held the week-long pre-lenten celebration. (from Noroeste)
