Within the next two weeks, a 22 million peso investment from the federal
tourism department (Sectur) and the Sinaloa State government will be put to use
remodeling the façades of buildings and sidewalks, and installing underground
cables in Mazatlán’s Centro Historico.
Jorge González Olivieri, subsecretary of the State tourism planning office,
told media they are also considering rescuing historic homes such as that of
Pedro Infante on calle Constitución which has fallen into disrepair. Officials
from his office have spoken to home owners in the area about opening new
restaurants, artisan shops and other tourism services and many have shown
interest.
Secretary of Tourism, Oralia Rice, told media last week that home owners in
Centro Historico contemplating opening a tourist service business would have
access to credit from the Sinaloa economic development office.
Rice also mentioned her office is in the process of obtaining a further 20-25
million pesos to improve tourist areas in the rest of the municipality,
including the Zona Dorada.
