Economic Corridor Businesses Conclude Successful Meeting

Business representatives from the states of Durango, Zacatecas, Nuevo Leon, Jalisco and Coahuila concluded a second successful meeting with local businessmen yesterday. The convocation of states along the economic corridor from Coahuila to Mazatlán, called “Uniting Forces, Strengthening Businesses” was organized by Codesin Sinaloa (Sinaloa Development Council) in anticipation of the completion of the Durango/Mazatlán highway which is expected to open trade along the corridor.

Investors from the northern states expressed a common interest in the areas of tourist development, renewable energy and mining, but it also became clear during meetings the difference in the level of infrastructure in Sinaloa´s northern neighbours compared to that in Mazatlán which has projects yet unrealized.

Flavio Michel, head of Mazatlán´s professional realtors association, told media the event was very successful and that investors from the represented states showed local businessmen the reality of the delay Sinaloa is experiencing in advances compared to their states. Nonetheless, he went on to say, the meetings exceeded expectations confirming common interests and building relations among the attendees.

The investors have promised to return to establish common projects and solidify the first commercial links, said Humberto Rice Rodríguez, head of Coparmex (Confederación Patronal de la República Mexicana).

The seed has been planted with businesses along the economic corridor, he told media, and he expects it to produce many possibilities for investment in Mazatlán.

Local business representatives also expressed interest in investing in neighbouring states where there have been impressive advances in the use of technology and the production of renewable energy.
