Customized Volkswagens on Display this Weekend

For the fifth year in a row, owners of customized Volkswagens from different States in the Republic will congregate for the Pacific Fest 2015 on May 2 and 3 at the Convention Center.

President of Club Vlks Mzt, Carlos Lizárraga, said he met with Mayor Carlos Felton to request the help of municipal security personnel and to invite him to inaugurate the festivities and take part in the parade.

The parade of the customized Volks will take place on Saturday, May 2 beginning at 5pm at Kilómetre Cero and travelling past the aquarium to along the Malecón, ending at the Convention Center for the official inauguration.

On Sunday, May 3, customized and personalized Volkswagens will be on public display, culminating in the presentation of prizes for the “Top 50 Volks.”

VW plans $1 billion investment in Mexico to support Tiguan output, report says

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) -- Volkswagen AG will unveil plans next week to invest around $1 billion in Mexico to expand its Puebla assembly plant, a person familiar with the matter said on Thursday.

The investment, aimed at supporting production of the Tiguan compact crossover, is due to be unveiled on Monday and is expected to generate about 1,900 jobs, the person said.

As of December, total investment in the auto sector in Mexico had reached $19 billion under President Enrique Pena Nieto, who took office two years earlier, the government says.

Volkswagen, which opened its sprawling Puebla plant in 1964, last year produced 475,121 vehicles out of about 3.2 million autos manufactured in the country, data from the Mexican Automotive Industry Association show.

Mexico is the seventh biggest manufacturer of autos and the fourth largest exporter in the world, according to AMIA. More than 80 percent of those vehicles are destined for sale abroad.

Total auto production increased 27 percent last year, compared to 2013, and AMIA has predicted that Mexico will produce more than 5 million vehicles by 2020.

The new “Golf” from the German manufacturer Volkswagen, which began production in Puebla, Mexico in early 2014, was awarded the Car of the Year by the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.

Volkswagen’s Golf snagged the North American Car of the Year on Monday, January 12th; arguably the most prestigious award among the many in the auto world, in what was perceived as a surprise win over Ford’s completely redone Mustang.

The Golf had already won a number of honors this year, but Ford had made quite a splash with the improvements that it made in the Mustang. Even VW officials were caught by surprise.

The finalists for the 2015 Car of the Year award were VW Golf, Ford Mustang, and Hyundai Genesis. The vehicles were judged on Six Car of the Year criteria:

1. Design
2. Handling
3. Innovation
4. Driver satisfaction
5. Comfort
6. Value for money

Individually judging, the Golf won the majority of the votes from 57 jurors.

Before coming to North American markets, the new Golf was already sold in overseas markets a year and a half ago. The automaker is also building a production plant in Mexico to supply Golf line vehicles in North America, instead of shipping over the German-made vehicles.

During 2014 59,180 Volkswagen Golf cars were manufactured in Mexico, of which 55,000 were exported mainly to the United States and Canada.

Volkswagen Fans Gather for Pacific Fest

Mexican Volkswagen fans will gather at the California Trailer Park beside McDonalds on Saturday and Sunday to show off their restored cars.

Pacific Fest, sponsored by Club Volks MZT, will begin on Saturday at 5pm with a parade from the trailer park to the Sinaloa Shield monument in Olas Altas.

On Sunday beginning at 8am, for 150 pesos Volks owners can register to be included in the Top 50 contest to judge best equipment, paint, accessories and restoration. (from Noroeste)
