Following provisional repairs to the vehicle access ramp, the La Paz Star
ferry from Mazatlán to La Paz, BCS, resumed its scheduled sailings this week
said Gustavo Gómez Rangel, Captain of the Port.
He told media the company had advised him of the provisional repair and that once the new electro hydrological winches were installed next week, the repair would be complete.
On June 26, hydraulics for the vehicle access ramp onto the ferry failed trapping approximately 200 people on board for 24 hours before they were allowed to disembark. The company reimbursed passengers for the fare and offered free bus transportation to the Topolobampo ferry terminal.
The Port Caption emphasized the mechanical winch failure in no way affects the physical integrity of the ferry, nor the cargo, nor the security of the passengers. However, he decided to suspend sailings until the company made a provisional or permanent repair to the ramp.
