The installation of multimedia technology in Mazatlán’s “Dr. Martiniano Carvajal” General Hospital has allowed doctors to take part in video conferences with specialists in other regions of the country. The equipment cost 200,000 pesos and is the first of its kind in southern Sinaloa.

Hospital director, Cruz Alberto Tirado Rojas, said the system helps keep costs down while doctors take advantage of real time conferences to consult on patient cases with specialists, particularly in the fields of epidemiology, hematology, surgery and gynecology.

The next phase, the doctor advised, is to open channels worldwide. They already have connections with an American clinic and a hospital in New York to consult via videoconferencing.
