For the first two weeks following the opening of the new Mazatlán-Durango highway on September 14th,
tolls for the use of the highway were waived and it was packed with
cars from Durango and other neighboring states heading to Mazatlán.
On Monday, October 28th, the tolls went into effect. The tolls between Durango and Mazatlán total 506 pesos ($40) and criticism is beginning to build throughout social websites about the price.
Mario López Valdez, Governor of the State of Sinaloa, said he would review the rates and discuss the matter with Ministry of Communication and Transportation because he did not want to see the price of tolls to discourage the use of the new highway, which was quite high during its first two weeks of operation.
The Governor said, “We will find a way, because we do not want such a beautiful project to become a stretch of highway that is not used.”
