This wonderful new location is on the south side of the Ley Viejo which is located on Ejercito Mexicano. You will see our signage on the property that is surrounded by a chain link fence.
Hospice is proud to announce that we now have a Facebook page as well as a blog in Spanish only on Facebook. Be sure to check pages for ongoing notices and news.
After recently receiving a Kirby Grant we were able to purchase two hospital beds, an oxygen concentrator and a pulse ox. A number of grants were not received this year due to the hurricane relief needed here in Mexico and government transition from PAN to PRI so we are having to look for other sources of support. Please remember that you can donate on a regular basis through our website.
We are proud to announce that Hospice has a new Grief Group and the first meeting was held on 09 Oct 2103, the result of requests from our community. The premier meeting was attended by almost 20 people of both genders. Meetings are conducted by Octavio Robeledo, who is a psychologist with many years of experience specializing in grief counseling.
The Day of Remembrance will be observed on 08 Dec 2013 so watch for information in the near future.
The Day of Remembrance is an event through which Hospice reconnects with all the families we served the preceding year. We talk about the changes brought about by the loss of a loved one and provide strategies for handling grief during the holidays. The event also provides an opportunity for family members to reconnect with hospice nurses who supported them during their difficult times. The ceremony honors those who have departed.
Please note we will be looking for volunteers who would like to make cookies/snacks to share after the service.
We are planning a breakfast fundraiser on Sunday 24th of November at the pool area of the Hotel Royal Villa. We will review what Hospice Mazatlan is accomplishing in our community. Breakfast tickets are 180 pesos.
Our major fundraising Golf Tournament at Estrella del Mar is scheduled for 11 Jan 2014. Watch for information on how to enter this really fun and successful event.
Another much anticipated fundraiser is the Hearts for Hospice dinner/dance which will be held at a new venue – Hotel Playa – on 15 Feb 2014. We will be looking for auction items for the popular silent auction – antiques, high quality new or used items as well as good art pieces are always desirable. Also do not forget about nice accents for the home such as lamps, occasional tables and small kitchen appliances and unique jewelry pieces which are always sought after as well. This auction is always a hugely anticipated part of the evening.
Our total numbers for this year (so far) are:
Requests for services: 138
New patients: 78
Mexicans: 101
Foreigners: 4
Deaths: 134
Nursing visits: 1847
Dr. Visits: 52
Social worker visits: 78
We would also like to gratefully acknowledge the help and ongoing support of the following:
American Consulate
Lety Coppel Foundation
Friends of Hospice Mazatlan
Dr. Simi Foundation
Fred Howard
Patti Fletcher
And also to those who wish to remain anonymous…without these combined efforts, Hospice Mazatlan could not continue……everyone would like say a big THANK YOU!!!!
