The hurricane season extends from May 15 to November 30. Tropical depressions and storms that may develop into hurricanes occur in the North Atlantic and Northeast Pacific oceans.
The key to hurricane or tropical storm protection is preparation. We encourage you and your family to review your personal safety practices. By taking sensible measures before, during and after a hurricane, many lives can be saved and property damage averted.
A hurricane preparedness plan includes three basic elements that are important in the threat of any severe weather event: 1) maintain a disaster or emergency supply kit; 2) secure your home and property; and 3) have a safe place to go in the event of an evacuation or prolonged utility outage.
Stay well informed by listening to the latest warnings and advisories on the radio, television, or web sites. Hurricane Centres will issue and update these when necessary. It is also important to follow the advice of local authorities and emergency response personnel.

Vous recevez ce message puisque vous vous êtes inscrits auprès du MAECI à l'aide du système d'inscription des canadiens à l'étranger. Nous vous saurions gré de bien vouloir faire part de l'information suivante à tous les citoyens canadiens se trouvant dans votre région.
La saison des ouragans s'étend du 15 mai au 30 novembre. Les dépressions tropicales et les tempêtes qui pourraient devenir des ouragans se produisent dans le nord de l'océan Atlantique et le nord-est de l'océan Pacifique.
La protection contre un ouragan ou une tempête tropicale se base sur la préparation. Nous vous encourageons, ainsi que votre famille, à revoir vos pratiques de sécurité personnelles. La prise de mesures appropriées avant, pendant et après un ouragan permet de sauver de nombreuses vies et éviter d'importants dégâts matériels.
Le plan de préparation à un ouragan comporte trois éléments de base qui s'appliquent ainsi à n'importe quelle autre menace liée au temps violent. Ces éléments sont les suivants : 1) préparation d'une trousse d'approvisionnement en cas d'urgence ou de catastrophe; 2) sécuriser votre maison et votre propriété; 3) désignation d'un endroit sécuritaire où vous pourrez vous rendre en cas d'évacuation ou d'interruption prolongée de services.
Restez bien informés en écoutant les avis et avertissements d'ouragan émis et mis à jour par les centres de prévision des ouragans, à l’aide de la radio, de la télévision ou des sites internet mentionnés ici-bas. En tout temps, veuillez observer les instructions émises par les services d’urgence locaux.
