SARANAC LAKE - Seven North Country artists are participating in an upcoming international exchange with artists in Mazatlan, Mexico.
The project, "Paper Migration: A Cross-Border Exploration of Art, Culture and Community," is an international collaborative exchange between BluSeed Studios, in Saranac Lake and a cooperative of artists in Mazatlan, Mexico including Glen Rogers Studio, Luna: Arte Contemporaneo, and the Municipal Institute of Culture, Tourism, and Art of Mazatlan (Cultura). Through art exhibitions, workshops, public lectures and street performance, the exchange will use art as a tool to transcend borders, challenge stereotypes and create cultural awareness and artistic collaboration.
BluSeed Studios and Glen Rogers Studio have worked together since 2009. In 2010 the relationship evolved into a small cultural exchange that served to build a new relationship with Cultura, Luna Gallery and the Saranac Lake community. BluSeed Studio artists will be travelling to Mazatlan in May. During the May visit to Mexico, BluSeed artists will participate in papermaking and printmaking workshops with Mexican artists, gallery talk, group exhibition, demonstrations and plein-air painting. As part of the project, BluSeed Artistic Director and North CountryCommunity College Faculty - Carol Vossler and resident artist - John LaFacle will bring their papermaking equipment and skills to Mazatlan to share this art form with students from the Escuelade Arte with free demonstrations, and to the community at large with workshops, artist talks and interactive street art. Later in the summer, Mexican artists will come to BluSeed Studios for 8 days which will feature a group exhibition, artist demonstrations and public art workshops.
Artistic Director, Carol Vossler, speaks of this international exchange as "An opportunity for artists to participate and collaborate on the artistic process and create a common dialogue that moves beyond language and cultural barriers. BluSeed Studios is honored to participate in such an exciting exchange and we are looking forward to welcoming the Mexican artists to the Adirondacks over the summer."
