With the advent of warmer weather, the annual arrival of the toxic Blue Bottle jellyfish in the waters and on shore has begun, said lifeguard squad commander Adrián Cervantes Rodríguez.
The bulbous blue coloured jellyfish float on top of the water and carry toxic venom that causes headaches, muscle spasms, nausea, vomiting, and difficulty in breathing when stung.
Lifeguards are placing white flags on beaches where the jellyfish are spotted and ask bathers to avoid entering the water where there is a warning flag.
