Immigration Forum- Mazatlan





FM3 and FM2 DO NOT EXIST 
ANYMORE 

Upon the expiry date of your current 
FM3 or FM2 you will have to follow a 
new process. This process will be 
explained below. 





TEMPORARY RESIDENTS
This will be applied to those 
who want to live in México 
for 4 years or less. 





Temporary Residents: 
If you have a current FM2 or FM3 for less than 4 years you can apply at the 
immigration office here in Mexico to aquire Temporary Residency 
The Documents required are the same as before 
.If you have less than 4 years outstanding then you pay for one, two or three 
years) 
Costs: 
One Year: 3,130 pesos 
Two Years: 4,690 pesos 
Three Years: 5,940 pesos 





TEMPORARY RESIDENTS: 
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATIONS THAT HAVE TO BE MADE IN A MEXICAN EMBASSY IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY 




The original and a copy of your passport or a valid and current piece of identification . 
A color passport size photo of your face with a white background. Please note the importance of 
having a clear view of your face without anything that obscures it (such as glasses). 
INCOME REQUIREMENTS: 
The original and a copy of documents proving that you are receiving monthly net income of $25,000 
pesos or dollar equivalent from your country of citizenship. 


OR……….. 



If you own Real Estate in México: 
The original and a copy of the public deed that has been registered by a notary stating that you 
own real estate in Mexico with a value of app. 1,300,000 pesos or dollar equivalent. 



TEMPORARY RESIDENT
If you do not currently have a valid FM3 or FM2 -
ONCE you have entered the country you must go to the 
INM offices within 30 days to obtain your temporary 
resident card. 
You will be presented with the following options: 




One year: 3,130 pesos 
Two years: 4,690 pesos 
Three years: 5,940 pesos 
Four years: 7,040 pesos 





PERMANENT RESIDENT

This document is issued to foreigners who want to live in México indefinitely 

Actually If you are here in Mexico with an FM3 or FM2 that is 4 Plus Years 
old you can apply for permanent residendency here at Immigration 

You will only require the same documentation as before 

THERE ARE NO TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS 

Costs: $3815 pesos PLUS $1000 pesos for processing 




PERMANENT RESIDENT 
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATIONS THAT HAVE TO BE IN A MEXICAN EMBASSY IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY 




The original and a copy of passport or a valid and current piece of identification as well as travel 
documents. 
A color passport size photo of your face with a white background. Please note the importance of 
having a clear view of your face without anything that obscures it (such as glasses). 


Retirees and pensioners: 

 1.The original and a copy of proof of investments or bank accounts with an average balance equal to 
$1.5 Million pesos or dollar equivalent during the last 12 months. 



OR 

2.The original and a copy of documents showing a monthly net pension income with a minimum 
$30,000.00 pesos for the last six months. 


PEOPLE THAT DO NOT REQUIRE A VISA TO 
ENTER THE COUNTRY: 
Those who enter the country with a valid passport 
and immigration form FMM have a maximum of 180 
days as a tourist. 
At the end of the indicated time the person must leave 
the country. 



Applies to all Expired Forms 
If you apply 60 calendar days late, after the expiration 
date on your visa, you will be fined $1500.00 pesos 
and will lose seniority (the amount of time you have 
lived in the country will no longer be valid). 
If the immigration form is overdue 
for more than 60 days you must 
leave the country immediately!
