The Durango-Mazatlán Highway is 230 km long, with 115 structures and 61 tunnels located in the states of Sinaloa and Durango, which consolidates the Mazatlán-Matamoros trunk road.

On the Las Adjuntas-Puente Baluarte stretch, President Calderón made the first car journey across the Baluarte Bridge. He pointed out that the Durango-Mazatlán highway involved an investment of 25 billion pesos. Works as complex and costaly as this highway have been built as a result of the National Infrastructure Fund, created during this administration. It is an instrument that has revolutionized spending on infrastructure in the country and virtually doubled the amount of money invested in the works Mexico needs to promote its growth and development.
The Durango-Mazatlán highway is strategic because it will link the Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico and for the first time in history, states in the north of the country will be connected, which will boost competitiveness and economic development for Mexico.
