Mazatlán Partners with Two More “Sister Cities”

Mazatlán Mayor Alejandro Higuera and three council members travelled Thursday to the cities of Pharr and Brownsville in Texas to ratify an agreement to become sister cities.

The opening soon of the Mazatlán-Durango Highway was the impetus behind the move, said the Mayor. Pharr is across from Reynosa, Tamaulipas and an import entry/exit point for agriculture products while Brownsville is a major port with numerous container ships.

It is an important and strategic alliance, said the Mayor, as Mazatlán will be the port of entry and they will be the point of exit for transport of goods. From Pharr, goods can be transported on a highway along the east coast directly to Québec, Canada.

A breakfast will be held today in Brownsville during which Mayor Higuera will be presented with keys to the city. (from Noroeste)
