Canadian Attacked in Mazatlan - New Information

March 7th to the 17th. We went to Mexico. USA Travel Advisory is warning not to go in Sinaloa. Friends warned us referring to an episode involving a Canadian woman being beaten. While there we learned the truth about the event.

A Canadian tourist went to the hospital after being beaten severely. Local witnesses told us the following story. “The Canadian woman got drugs from a man in a bar. She and her husband took the man to their hotel room where the husband passed out and the woman decided to reject advances. When she rejected the “new friend” he became angry beating her severely. She was found in an elevator unconscious.”

Official investigators reported, “Expert and investigators of the Ministerial of the State responded to the hotel and found traces of blood in a walkway of a flat. Presumably the young woman was attacked in a room of the hotel, and dragged down the hallway to an elevator where he left her. Eye witnesses Cecilia reports “... saw them (I said they saw them) leave the bar (with the husband) at 2:00 am and went to their hotel room...”
While in Mazatlan we stayed at Pueblo Bonito in Emerald Bay, very close to RUI where the event took place. Our maid said she was called in to help clean up the mess. She said there was blood in the room on the floor and bed. Also we had occasion to speak with the bar personnel. “The Canadian couple drank with the man and left the bar with him. Authorities stated that the husband appeared to be sleeping in the room when his wife was being attacked in the room.

Unfortunately, Canadian and USA reporters failed to give all the facts.
Our ten days were peaceful and fun with not one hint of trouble. We drove our little rented Altos all over. Yes there is danger if you try to buy drugs, wander around in the area were gangs are living or stay out till 2am in the bars. Actually during the ten days we were gone there was more crime in Spokane than in Mazatlan. Good, kind, gentle people are suffering because of bad reporting. Shops along the ocean have few tourist visits. God to Mazatlan and enjoy it is as safe or safer than any city in the USA with half a million people!
