Foreign Interest in Property Investment Increases

Flavio Michel Sánchez, newly elected President of the Mazatlán branch of the Mexican association of real estate professionals (AMPI) was optimistic when he spoke to media yesterday.

After a year of slow sales, Michel Sánchez said people are beginning to ask agencies and developers for information on property investment, particularly Canadians who have become aware of the imminent opening of the Mazatlán–Matamoros highway. They are not only enquiring about homes, but also about establishing subsidiaries of foreign businesses in the city.

AMPI members have noticed, he said, that foreign, Canadian and national investors are indicating their interest in investing in Mazatlán and they are in the process of finalizing new operations and re-sales.

With respect to security questions, this is not something that has an impact among foreigners because they do not depend on this to make a decision. Rather they prefer to verify the reality themselves rather than rely on American and Canadian newspapers which exaggerate the situation, said Michel Sánchez.

The AMPI President pointed out that this change in investment criteria on behalf of Americans and Canadians is reflected in their questions about prices, zones and housing appreciation. They do not enquire about security now, whereas at the beginning of the year it was the first question they asked.
