The Commander of the Cuerpo Voluntario de Bomberos de Mazatlán, Roberto Roque
Castañeda, said this weekend that during high tourist season it is difficult for
his team to reach fires in several areas of Mazatlán, in particular the Golden
Zone.
For this reason, he said, they need a fire station in the zone. In times of less tourism, there is no problem but during high season events and on weekends their response time to an emergency call is 15 or 16 minutes compared to 10.
There are plans to construct a station in the Zona Dorada but to date there is nothing concrete as they need to find funds and land. The Board of Trustees of the fire department is looking into it, the commander advised.
The city of Mazatlán has three fire stations, one on Avenida Gabriel Leyva, one on Avenida Insurgentes and one in Fraccionamiento Villa Florida, all of which are open 24 hours a day.
