Have a Beef with the City? Send them a Photo

The photos go directly to the Mayor, said the Secretary of Innovative Government.
The photos go directly to the Mayor, said the Secretary of Innovative Government.
Beginning yesterday, Mazatlecans have a new tool to report problems directly to the Mayor. It is a recently introduced website where users can upload photos of problems such as potholes, dirty water or cars double parked and blocking traffic.
The website platform was created by the Secretary for Innovative Government on instructions from the State government and Mazatlán is the first municipality to put it into gear.
Named “Clic,” the site is a way to empower citizens to find solutions for problems, deficiencies or abuse by authorities through the use of photography, said Secretary Karim Pechir Espinosa, and those photos go directly to the Mayor.
He told media most people have a cell phone with photo applications, and often complaints are posted on social networking sites. The government is providing a secure way to bring their complaints to the Mayor´s attention by going into the “Clic” site, uploading the photo and the poster´s information. The poster will be given a folio number and when the problem has been solved, he or she will be sent a picture showing the result.
Mayor Carlos Felton said at the presentation of the website that it is a new collaborative mechanism with citizens to attack and solve problems and if there are no resources available, the municipality will look for them from the State or federal government.
He invited Mazatlecans to capture problems or abuses “in flagrante” with a photo and give a “Clic” to report them.
You can find the “Clic” site at: www.innovaciongubernamental.gob.mx/clicmazatlan orwww.mazatlan.gob.mx .

Municipal Development Plan to 2040 Approved by Council

by Maureen Dietrich on 27 Dec 13

Following a prolonged discussion at a city council meeting this week, three urban plans presented by Implan director Israel Victoria Lona were approved: Mazatlán Urban Development, Partial Urban Development of the Centro Historico and Partial Urban Development of the logistic corridor of Mazatlán-Villa Unión.

In 350 years Mazatlán has increased by 8,000 hectares, three times faster than the population with a 300 percent increase in vehicle traffic, said Victoria Lona.

According to the director, Mazatlán has approximately 10,000 undeveloped hectares ready for urbanization which are included in the plan to take the city to 2040 in an ordered, disciplined manner and not with just “bright ideas,” the benefits of which can be short term. The logic here is to plan for the long term.

Following requests by Mazatlán citizens to change the name of Kilómeter Cero Park to Héctor Peña Tamayo Park, architect and one of the principal promoters of sports in the municipality, the city council unanimously approved the change yesterday.

Peña Tamayo was the municipal director of social development when he was killed in a car accident on the Mazatlán-Culiacán autopista last month after attending a civic event in El Quelite.
