Chiapas Gov. Manuel Velasco Coello said that the Renewable Energy
Research and Technological
Development Center (Cidter), which forms part
of the Chiapas Polytechnic University, has a holistic vision and the
infrastructure needed to conduct its research. The Cidter was built and
equipped at a cost of 53 million pesos ($4 million).
According to Velasco Coello, the Cidter will provide a much-needed
impulse for research into renewable energy, particularly solar, wind and
other natural power sources that don’t harm the environment.
Velasco Coello said that that the Cidter will position Chiapas at the forefront of environmental research in Mexico’s southeast.
It will also strengthen the professional development of environmental
scientists and engineers studying at Chiapas Polytechnic University, he
added.
Chiapas Polytechnic University Rector Navor Francisco Ballinas
Morales said that Cidter is the result of a vision of a modern Chiapas
that would be known as a source of innovation in science and technology
and a leader in sustainable development.
