Last evening the southern portion of Olas
Altas was closed as the city dedicated a monument to hometown composer,
pianist and singer Fernando Teodoro Valadés Lejarza, best known as Fernando Valadés.
Fernando Valadés was born in Mazatlán in 1920 and died on December 14, 1978.
He retained deep roots in Mazatlán and many of his 13 children are still part of the community.
At the dedication last night Angel Rodriguez, pianist with the Angela Peralta Theater, accompanied local vocalists.
