Repairs on Pacifico Monument Begin

Yesterday a portion of Ave. del Mar was blocked off as workers removed the Pacifico Monument with a large crane. Before sunrise this morning the repair crews had returned with the crane to remove large portions of concrete that had split into by the huge waves caused by Hurricane Odile hitting the monument.
The popular monument was installed on March 14, 2000, in celebration of 100th anniversary of Pacifico Brewery, which opened in Mazatlán on March 14, 1990.

Two Months to Repair Pacifico Monument

Sergio Wong Ramos, Director of Public Works for Mazatlán, said that it would take two months to repair the damage done to the monument on Avenida de Mar celebrating the 100th anniversary of Pacifico brewery.
The director said the delay is caused by the high tides that have inhibited the beginning of the needed repairs.
Sergio Wong said the cost to repair the Pacifico monument and the other damaged sustained on the Malecón would be approximately 650,000 pesos and would be accomplished by the Public Works’ own resources.

Tourism Secretary Claudia Ruiz Massieu made progress during a tour of Russia in opening that market for Mexico, the secretariat said in a statement.

“As a result of Ruiz Massieu’s work, air links were expanded and different tour operators expressed interest in putting products like Vallarta-Nayarit and other destinations on the market,” the secretariat said.

Tour operator South Cross expressed interest in promoting products that include Puerto Vallarta and other Mexican Pacific destinations for the 2014-2015 winter season.

Pacífico beer, which originated in Mazatlán, is considered Number One in the Top Ten major beers of the world according to an evaluation, study and ranking of the firm FindTheBest. The company gathers comments of consumers and experts on the Web worldwide.

In a press release, the Sinaloa Secretary of Tourism indicated the FindTheBest Top Ten ranking was published on the Yahoo! Finance internet page. Following Pacifico in first place were Michelob and Ballentine (USA), Negra Modelo (Mexico), Windhoek (Namibia), Aguila (Columbia), Smithwick´s (Ireland), Affligem Bonde (Belgium), Laurentina (Mozambique) and Michelob Ultra (USA), in that order.

The Pacífico brewery was launched in Mazatlán at the beginning of the 20th century and began exporting to the United States in 1985. The beer occupies 15th place in American preferences of imported beers.

The most important quality of a beer is its taste, said CEO of FindTheBest, Kevin O´Connor. However, the experience of drinking a beer includes various other secondary elements including the appearance, smell and texture, he added.
