The strong ties between the United Kingdom and Mexico are reflected in trade, arts and entertainment, science, technology and education, said President Enrique Peña Nieto while announcing the Mexico-United Kingdom Dual Year.

The Mexico-United Kingdom Dual Year means that 2015 will be the Year of Mexico in the United Kingdom and in Mexico, the Year of the United Kingdom.

“This simultaneous celebration is the greatest expression of … friendship and brotherhood between the nations,” Peña Nieto said.

He added that with the official visit of the Prince of Wales, “The mutual respect and fondness between Mexicans and the British is confirmed.”

After the official welcoming ceremony to receive Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Peña Nieto said that the countries shared the intention of strengthening their bilateral relationship.

Since the beginning of the European Union-Mexico Free Trade Agreement in 2000, the commercial exchange between the United Kingdom and Mexico has grown by 153 percent, said Peña Nieto.

Earlier in the day, the president announced the Energy Reform regulations, while guaranteeing legal certainty and full trust to those investors who decide to participate in the country’s energy sector.

Now there are clear and stable rules to participate in an environment of free competition, equality and efficient market function, said the president.

“Conditions exist to take advantage of the technological and financial capacities of the private sector and are necessary to increase national production, transformation and distribution of energy sources in a transparent, efficient, competitive and sustainable way,” Peña Nieto said.

The entire value chain of the energy industry will be regulated, including the private participation in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons, said the president.

Peña Nieto added that the new regulations will preserve and secure national property in relation to oil revenues and hydrocarbons.

Prince Charles Arrives in Mexico on 4-Day Visit

MEXICO CITY – Britain’s Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, arrived on Sunday in Mexico City for a four-day official visit aimed at tightening the relationship between the United Kingdom and Mexico.

Charles, the heir to the British throne, and Camilla arrived at the Mexico City airport at 1:15 p.m. on the jet bringing them from Colombia, which they had been visiting since last Tuesday.

On Sunday, the royal couple were scheduled to see the picturesque town of Real del Monte, where the basis for the relationship between the two nations is being laid with the presence of British miners in the silver mines there.

On Monday, the Prince of Wales and Camilla will be welcomed by President Enrique Peña Nieto and first lady Angelica Rivera at a reception in the National Palace in Mexico City.

On Tuesday, the royal couple will be in Campeche, in southeastern Mexico, and on Wednesday they will conclude their stay with a tour of the city of Monterrey.

Charles and Camilla arrived in Bogota on Oct. 28, where they were received the next day by President Juan Manuel Santos and participated in assorted activities, including celebrating the 75th anniversary of the British Council in Colombia and making a visit to the Memory, Peace and Reconciliation Center.
