The most recent update of Mazatlán’s iconic Plazuela Machado in the Centro Historico was inaugurated last night by Mayor Carlos Felton.

Among changes to the popular gathering spot were the installation of underground cables, planting of 6,500 floral species, benches with name plaques of benefactors of the upgrade and the removal of handrails and two glorietas.

In all, 1,450,000 pesos were invested in the rehabilitation of the plazuela of which the municipality paid 65 percent and private interests paid 35 percent.

The Mayor mentioned during the ceremony that the municipality plans to recover historic buildings and plazas in the old town area. One possibility, he said, is to remodel the Plaza de los Leones with the tentative plan of moving the library presently situated in the plaza.
