In its newly released report, “Status and prospects for the world economy 2015,” the United Nations (UN) estimates that the Mexican economy will grow 3.4 percent this year and 3.8 percent in 2016.

The report said the projected growth is driven by public investment, structural reforms and growth in the United States.

These growth rates for México are higher than expected by the UN for global growth of 3.1 and 3.3 percent, respectively.

A spokesperson for the UN said in a press conference that besides the help México will receive from the economic growth in the United States, the structural reforms México has made in the past couple of years will begin to bear fruit and public investment will continue to rise.

Loría Eduardo Díaz de Guzmán, a member of the Economics faculty at the National Autonomous University of México (UNAM), noted that in the economies of Latin America, México is the country that stands out, as Brazil is expected to grow at 1.5 percent this year and 2.4 percent next, while Argentina is projected to grow at a rate of 0.8 percent in 2015.

For Latin America and the Caribbean as a whole, only a modest recovery in economic growth is expected; 2.4 percent for 2015.
