Despite having announced that Mazatlán’s first Olympic sized pool would be constructed at the Benito Juárez sports complex, Mayor Felton said yesterday he doubted the pool would “fit” in that location due to its regulation size.

As a result, the city and contractor are analyzing other locations including the new Centro de Usos Múltiples in the Marina zone, he said in a press conference yesterday.

An amount of 50 million pesos was originally budgeted for the Olympic pool. Subsequently however, the Director of Public Works Sergio Wong Ramos advised that budget was for the first stage of construction only. To equip and ready the pool for competitions, at least a further 60 million pesos were required.

Mayor Felton told media at the press conference that he has full confidence in the contractor who has hired the technical director of sports equipment for the Panamerican Games as a consultant.
