The operation took place with the help of the
departments of ecology, official mayor and medical services.
Approximately 30 minors were discovered in bars and night clubs during a surprise operation conducted by the municipal government this weekend.
María del Rosario Torres Noriega, Municipal Hall Secretary, said the operation took place with the help of the departments of ecology, official mayor and medical services in an effort to determine if bars, night clubs and restaurants were adhering to regulations following a series of diverse complaints.
As a result of visits to 17 businesses including bars, night clubs and restaurants, six fines were levied by the department of ecology for loud music above the permitted decibel level, six for allowing live music without the necessary permits and four for permitting minors access to adult establishments and selling them alcoholic beverages. One bar in the Zona Dorada was shut down.
As well, two young transvestites were detained on Av. Del Mar offering sexual services without having the requisite health permits.
City personnel told media the operation began at 10pm and ended at 3am.
Torres Noriega stated they had received many complaints of loud music until early in the morning and during the operation closed a bar in the Zona Dorada for two infractions: serving minors and allowing live music without a permit.
She explained the operation was not intended to be punitive. Rather, it was to make owners aware of the laws and check identification of young people at the door, something they found owners have not been doing.
