ALGIERS – A Mexican delegation is in Algeria examining business opportunities and options for expanding trade with the North African country, a Mexican official told Efe on Sunday.

“In Mexico, we are looking for a strategy to enter North Africa, and Algeria offers a possibility for small- and mid-sized firms to establish themselves,” Francisco Gonzalez Diaz, the director of trade development agency Promexico, told Efe.

The Mexican trade delegation is made up of business leaders from the agricultural, biotechnology, metals and construction industries.

Mexico’s exports to Algeria are currently limited to food, medicines and other pharmaceutical products, Gonzalez Diaz said.

Algeria provides an entry point for the African market and Mexico would like to have some of its businesses establish a presence in the country, the Promexico chief said.

Gonzalez Diaz arrived in Algeria on Saturday with the delegation for a three-day visit.

The Promexico director met with high-level Algerian officials and business leaders, and he attended a business opportunities seminar on Sunday.
