Mazatlán’s Traffic Accidents Drop

Aarón Aguilar Iñiguez, Commander of Mazatlán’s Municipal Transit Police, told reporters that the number of vehicle accidents has dropped during the month of September. The commander said that during the month of August there were 107 reported vehicle accidents compared to only 75 in September.
As with the number of accidents, the number of accident related injuries dropped to 61 this month, down from 85 in August. Financial loss attributable to vehicle accidents amounted to 1,556,400 pesos ($118,268) in August, but fell to 1,025,680 ($77,951) in September.
Aarón Aguilar attributes the positive numbers to the city’s drivers being more conscientious in their driving, including using seat belts.
He pointed out that last weekend 97 motorcyclists were ticketed for not wearing a helmet, 17 for not having the required licenses, and four for being intoxicated. 102 drivers of automobiles and trucks received tickets for not having the required licenses, while 94 received citations for parking in restricted spaces.
