Unemployment Drops in June

According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the unemployment rate, as a proportion of the economically active population (PEA), stood at 4.84 percent for June, a slight decline from the 5 percent reported in May of 2014. The INEGI said the total unemployed population in the country was 2.5 million in the first half of the year.
Although the unemployment rate beat the prediction of analysts, it still remains high, a spokesperson for the INEGI said.
By gender, unemployment among women was 4.97 percent, while the unemployment rate for men was 4.89 percent.
The federal entities with the highest unemployment rates were the Federal District with 6.92 percent, Tabasco with 6.63 percent, and the State of México with 6.53 percent An unemployment of 1.50 percent in the state of Guerrero was the lowest unemployment rate in the country.
