In an art project without precedent in Mazatlán, six artists are putting their creativity towards sculptures made from salt on the Malecón in Olas Altas.
The block of course salt was donated to Cultura de Mazatlán by Exportadora del Sal.
Ceclia Sánchez Duarte, sculptor, teacher and coordinator of the Municipal Center of the Arts, was present at the inauguration of the unusual project on Friday along with the other five artists Manuel Alencaster, Gerardo Santamaria, Renato Gonzales, Jesús Aguilar and Adán Navallez.
The theme is open and each artist will create their work in the presence of the public. Hot weather and rain have been taken into consideration by establishing the hours artists can work on their creation and each must wear protective mouth masks and gloves while working.
A seventh sculpture will be a collective effort in which the public can participate.
The unveiling of all the salt sculptures will take place on Saturday, July 4 in Olas Altas.
