A proposal to redirect traffic to avoid bottleneck congestion in the Zona Dorada during Semana Santa has been approved by the State Governor and federal security officials who will participate in the Operativo de Seguridad during the holidays.
The traffic flow pilot project will go through a dry run tomorrow, Saturday April 5.
Beginning at 5am, all four lanes of Ave. Camarón Sabalo from Valentino’s to Av. La Marina Mazatlán will be restricted to northbound vehicles only. The four lanes of Av. La Marina Mazatlán to the intersection with Av. Dr. Carlos Canseco will be eastbound only. Av. Dr. Carlos Canseco to the cross street of Av. Rafael Buelna will be southbound traffic only.
The pilot project try-out will end at 6am on Sunday morning.
Avenidas Lomas de Mazatlán, Rafael Buelna and Insurgentes will not be affected by the dry run.
Mazatlán Mayor Carlos Felton said depending on the outcome of the trial, they would like to apply the change during Semana Santa´s heaviest traffic days of Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
With respect to the proposal to dedicate a specific area for visitors to congregate to listen to music, the Convention Center, Bacanora, Plaza de Toros and Plazoleta de Sam´s Club are being considered.
