Yesterday Marbiel Chollet Morán, Coordinator of The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) in the south, said the ten beer stands that were scheduled to open on Mazatlán’s beaches could not do so because the breweries sponsoring the beer stands had not obtained the necessary permits.
After the announcement the mayor’s office acknowledged that there had been a lack of communication. The spokesperson for the mayor’s office said when a temporary permit is requested for installations on the beach, the municipality sends a copy to the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources to inform them that only a temporary not a permanent authorization was requested.
Mayor Felton said, “Profepa for the south of the state should not create problems for the people of Mazatlán at this time of the year.”
Marbiel Chollet reiterated that the “law is not negotiable” adding that there could not be any agreement with the City because that would exceed her powers. Although she did “agree” not to close down the beer stands, she made it ??clear that the companies will have to pay the corresponding fines.
