Mazatlán mayor, Carlos Felton, said that at the present time the cost of closing Olas Altas to vehicular traffic and permitting pedestrian traffic only is currently unknown.
However, he said he was confident that the city would not have to bear any of the cost. He said he expected contributions from beer companies, as well as soft drink companies and various hotels.
Not all city councilmen are happy with the way the mayor has handled the changes being made for Semana Santa. Councilman Andrés López Soto said the city council was advised of changes only after the information was made available to the general public. He said, “Maybe the decisions are right, but it would have been better if the city council had been informed.
Mayor Felton said the monies expended are not an “expense” but rather an “investment” in the city.
