For more than six hours yesterday, from 6am to noon, Harbour Master Gustavo Gómez Rangel closed the port to small vessels when a bank of dense fog covered most of Mazatlán including Stone Island, Cerro del Crestón, the tourist area and Baja Ferry docks.
One cargo ship scheduled to dock at 7am was delayed due to the dense fog, finally docking at 9:30am, advised the Port Captain, adding fog is a common occurrence during the months of March and April and will continue for awhile.
Ismael Checa Landeros, director of the Sinaloa Civil Protection, said Mazatlán’s international airport was also closed for a short time yesterday due to the fog bank. (from Noroeste)
