The Miramar condo complex continues to be a point of interest for visitors and Mazatlecans alike.

The capture of Sinaloa Drug Cartel leader Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán at the Miramar condominium complex in Mazatlán last Saturday has had a positive effect on the port, said the President of the federal Chamber of Businesses in Sinaloa.

Guillermo Romero Rodríguez said that curiously from Saturday to Sunday the number of hotel reservations in Mazatlán increased, a situation they are in the process of analyzing.

The international publicity generated from the capture has put Mazatlán in the mind of Mexicans and foreigners and in his opinion, it will not have a negative effect. On the contrary, it will help spread the name of the city as an attraction to those who had not heard of Mazatlán previously.

With respect to “narcotours” that have increased since Saturday, Romero Rodríguez invited pulmonia, taxi and auriga drivers to avoid offering the tours which give a negative image of the city which is promoted as a destination for family tourism.

Carlos Rivera Vega, recently elected president of professional real estate agents in Mazatlán, agrees, telling reporters that while it is not good news the cartel leader was apprehended in Mazatlán, on the other hand images of the city transmitted through national and international media reflect the beauty of its beaches and the Malecón to millions of readers throughout the world.
