On a bright, warm Saturday morning this past weekend 50 people, among
them Americans, Canadians, personnel from a rehabilitation center and
homeowners on Cerro de Vigía, gathered together to pick up garbage from
the Mirador del Cañon and surroundings.
In less than an hour, they had collected 20 large bags of garbage.
Vice President of the colonos de Cerro de Vigía suggested there should be an automatic fine for people throwing garbage on the hill, a popular tourist destination for its panoramic view.
President of the homeowners association, Miguel Villa Panduro, said this was the first garbage collection day that they hope to repeat three or four times this year but, he added, they have been doing this since 2012 and to date have not had the necessary help to keep the area clean.
