In 2014, the federal government will allocate a budget for the Centro Integralmente Planeado (CIP) “Playa Espíritu” in Teacapán which the Fondo Nacional de Turismo (Fonatur) qualifies as historic in comparison to other federal tourism developments.

A total of 530 million pesos has been allocated to the Playa Espíritu project for 2014, and if that amount can be maintained over the next few years said Sinaloa Fonatur delegate Joel Amarillas López, the project could come together within two or three years.

To date, said Amarillas López, 2,300 million pesos have been invested in the mega tourism project announced during the Presidential term of Felipe Calderón and many millions more will be required to complete it.

The 530 million pesos will be used for infrastructure projects such as the introduction of subterranean cables and roads.

Amarillas López advised they are presently looking for investors in the first hotel and investors for a golf course, which could be finalized in 2014.

He went on to assure media that Fonatur´s debts to service providers have been settled in the amount of 13 million pesos.

The plan for next year is to call for bids on projects, rather than use Fonatur construction companies as occurred previously, he said.

Amarillas López reiterated that the CIP project will be developed as originally planned, despite observations by environmentalists that construction on the site will leave the municipalities of Escuinapa and El Rosario without water.
