Wettest September in 100 years

The federal government said that September was the wettest September in 100 years with floods and mudslides leaving 147 people dead and 309 municipalities declared “disaster zones.”

President Peña Nieto said that he “has authorized an amount exceeding one billion, 500 million pesos ($114 million) from the Natural Disaster Fund … to meet contingencies caused by the climatic events in the country.”

So far due to Tropical Storm Ingrid and Hurricane Manuel:

  1. 147 deaths have occurred.
  2. 18 states have been declared disaster areas with the status of the state of Jalisco pending.
  3. 8 states that have not been declared disaster areas have been adversely affected.
  4. 309 municipalities have been declared disaster areas.
  5. 212 municipalities are in a state of emergency.
  6. Around 60,000 people have been evacuated.
  7. More than 29,000 are living in shelters.
  8. There are 1,865 collections stations around the country to accept donations, and
  9. 15,000 buildings and homes have been damaged.
