Proudly displaying their gold medals around their necks, sisters Magnolia and
Alma Castro Ramírez returned to Mazatlán after competing in and winning the
Expociencias Internacional 2013 held recently in the United Arab Emirates.
The sisters aged 11 and 13 years old, students at the Ignacio Ramírez primary school, won for their project entitled “Protection of the gulf turtles in danger of extinction.”
In order to raise funds for travel to the Emirates, the sisters and family made and sold tamales, chocolates, ceviche and other food stuffs and held raffles and donation breakfasts.
The students were accompanied to the science expo by Prof. María Carmen Manjarrez López, their teacher.
