On Sunday, September 15th, Mexico will celebrate the 203rd anniversary of its independence with national commemoration services and fiestas.

Mazatlán is no exception with music and dance scheduled in the Plazuela República, all leading up to the traditional “Grito de Dolores” by Mayor Alejandro Higuera at 11:58pm from the municipal hall balcony.

Hundreds and Mazatlecans and tourists are expected to converge on the Plazuela at 5pm when Banda and mariachi music begins, followed by performances of local artists Los Fuereños, Cecilia Jacker, Hermanos Mar, Mari Jose and the Hue-Hue folkloric ballet from Angostura.

As every year, invited politicians, businessmen and heads of diverse organizations will meet in the Municipal Hall for the Mayor´s cocktail reception followed by dinner.

At 22:50pm the Mexican flag will be presented to the Mayor by members of the Third Military Region, and shortly thereafter the Mayor and invited guests will move onto the balcony where the Mayor will proclaim the Grito of “Viva México” three times.

The party will then get into full swing with fireworks and music by the Los Porteños Banda until the early hours of the morning.
