International tourists’ arrivals continue to grow

The Secretary of Tourism (Sectur) said that the number of international tourists who arrived in México by air increased by 7.5% in the first five months of 2013 as compared to the same period in 2012.

In a press release Sectur said that 5,237,035 visitors flew into México during the first five months of 2013, up from 4,871,029 in the previous year. The press release said that in May alone, approximately 880,000 visitors flew into México, a 14% increase over May of 2012.

The United States remains the main tourist market for México. Of the 5.2 million international visitors during the first five months of this year 2.8 million visitors were from the United States. The U.S. tourists comprised 53% of the total and were up 7.2% over the same period in 2012.

Those countries that followed the U.S. in number of visitors were Canada with 944,000 tourists, Great Britain with 154,000, Argentina with 129,000 and Brazil with 113,000.
