Businesses looking to Mexico for growth opportunities

TUCSON - Small business owners and entrepreneurs seeking help in building their companies and our economy are looking across the border for answers.

Some have a dream to start a business, others to expand, and they're learning how to work with Mexico to bring economic growth to the community.

"It is the American dream to me," said Luis Fabela.

Fabela owns Victory Auto Collision Center.

"One of the reasons that the name is Victory Auto is because it's a victory to me it's a victory to have this business," said Fabela.

Fabela started this business twelve years ago, and without the help of Chicanos por la Causa or CPLC, he said it wouldn't be what it is today.

"It was very helpful that they lend me the money to keep growing the business," said Fabela.

The organization not only loans money to small business owners but teaches them how to start and expand their business, manage money and import or export products.

"There have been a few parts that we bring from Mexico," said Fabela.

Bill Johnson is at CPLC's Conexiones Expo to learn how to start a business in Sonora.

"The costs of a lot of the things that we need to develop the business and software are much cheaper," said Johnson.

According to Datos Tucson, Mexico is Arizona's leading international trade partner.

"A person that wants to invest in Mexico is not only investing in Mexico, he's also investing in America," said Alfonso de Alba Aguayo, from the Consulate of Mexico in Tucson.

The Consulate of Mexico can make links between Mexican and American business owners, giving them more options when looking for buyers, suppliers and distributors to distribute in both the U.S. and Mexico.
