City Hall to get Facelift

mazmessenger.com
Mazatlán’s deteriorating City Hall is an eyesore to the citizens who come there to transact business, to visitors to the city, and a hazard to the employees who work there.
Salvador Garzón Reynosa, the official mayor, said the city can no longer just put paint and powder on the facility; patchwork and painting is no longer an alternative. Accordingly, he said 450,000 pesos ($34,000) has been budgeted to make needed repairs to City Hall.
Work on the rehabilitation project began yesterday. Garzón Reynosa said work should be completed by México’s Independence Day (September 16).

City Hall Offers Free Motorcycle Helmets

In an effort to promote the use of helmets for motorcycle drivers and passengers and diminish the number of injuries from accidents, the Municipal government will begin a helmet giveaway campaign in May.

Mayor Carlos Felton advised that a portion of the five million peso budget for preventative programs will be used to acquire the helmets. For each helmet an adult motorcyclist purchases, the municipality will give him or her a free child´s helmet. In this way, said the Mayor, they are helping the motorcyclist economically and fostering the culture of safe protection when motorcycling.
